Kadeem Johnson

Kadeem Johnson (b. 1989, New York City) is a Los Angeles based documentary photographer whose work pairs authentic storytelling with a contemporary sensibility. Focused on capturing honest, visually striking moments, Johnson explores the depth of everyday life through light, movement, and human connection.

He began photographing in 2007, later transitioning to a Nikon SLR and quickly gaining momentum after successfully selling his first prints on the streets of SoHo. Since then, his work has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, Vogue, The New York Times, and Essence. A defining moment in his career came in 2024 when he was commissioned by Essence to photograph Vice President Kamala Harris for the magazine’s September/October cover.

Johnson’s practice is rooted in observation and empathy, creating images that feel immediate, vibrant, and deeply human. His first solo exhibition features photographs from his travels through Brazil between 2023 and 2024.
